Women in Ministry Network UPCI Launched

The Women in Ministry Network UPCI launched its first Meet and Greet on Wednesday September 30th, 2016 at the UPCI 2016 General Conference in Indianapolis, IN. Just under fifty women were in attendance for this meet and greet where the committee chair Sister Lois Mitchell presented her burden and vision for this ministry along with our General Superintendent David K. Bernard. The Women in Ministry Network committee members were also present and met during the week to discuss this ministry. Committee members were appointed by Bishop Bernard. They are Lois Mitchell (Chair), Connie Bernard, Vicki Gonzalez, Cindy Miller, Crystal Schmalz, Melissa Fross, David Norris, Pebble Wisdom, and Lori Wagoner.

The WIM Meet and Greet 2016 was a wonderful time where women came together to get to know one another and to share in their calling and ministry. It was nice to have pens given away with our name, coffee, and some small breakfast snacks to help provide an atmosphere of fellowship. Looking around the room there were women from all ages, cultures, backgrounds, and ministries. It truly was beautiful to see the diversity and the gifts God has given to the UPCI. I was reminded of the scripture in Proverbs 3 which speaks about wisdom, and how she is more precious than jewels. God has given us women with gifts and callings, which are more precious than jewels and I am glad we are contining to treasure these women and help them in their calling and ministry. I look forward to making new friends, connecting, and listening to the many stories these women have in their ministries. God is at work! God is bringing revival!

The Women in Ministry Network UPCI’s mission is to “facilitate communication, coordination, visibility, mentoring, and training tools for credentialed women involved in ministry in the United Pentecostal Church International.” The network was birthed out of a burden by our General Superintendent David Bernard and his wife Connie Bernard, and other women and men who have a heart for women who minister in the Kingdom of God and who have become aware of the need for a structured endorsed entity which can provide communication, coordination, mentoring, and encouragement. The committee met during the week of General Conference and is moving forward with future plans on how best to help women in our movement. An official policy has also been presented and adopted by the general board, and we are thankful for the support we have in our movement which encourages women in ministry and leadership. I am grateful our movement has always ordained women and we have over 400 women with their license in our movement. I look forward to the day this number is tripled as God continues to bring the revival and harvest! We need every member in the Kingdom of God to give their gifts and work in the ministry. In a culture where women have often doubted if there is a space for them, I want to encourage you that there is a space and place for you in our movement. While things might feel like they are moving slowly at times, be encouraged, and keep working in the calling God has placed upon your life.

At this time there is a Facebook page which is available to UPCI licensed women ministers. Please find us on Facebook and help us spread the word about this incredible ministry for women in our movement. One of my hopes as a committee member is to help increase the visibility and get to know other licensed women in our movement who are pastoring, evangelizing, preaching, teaching, and are pioneers in bringing forward women’s ministries efforts. We can work together to help spread the word, but We Need Your Help! Visit our Facebook page and let’s get connected!
